All the fun of the Fayre !

I thought it would be nice to give you a little virtual tour of the recent fayre, the first fayre of the year is always quieter than the others, as people are recovering from christmas, but its important to attend, as it is advertising and reminds folks that you are there. I also find that what you dont take on the day, you take on aftersales.

Saturday was a good day with a steady turn over, and sunday was a quiet affair, not helped by the wet nasty weather. But I was delighted to see that all MY dear friends and family and customers still came out to see us over the weekend.

So here are the artists work......  :)

Heres lovely Amanda Towns creations, she of Sew Vintage . You can find her on facebook, shes such a lovely person and her work reflects that. Below are my favourite bears and bunnnies of hers, such a joy !

She also has branched out into cushions now too !

Here we now have Marcus Holmes pottery, he is tricky to get hold of, but if you message me I can send you his mobile number, so you can deal with him direct.

I especially love and have alot of his floral design, the blue on the cream.....

Below are his vases.

Here we now have Belle and Olive. Suzanne produces a fantastic array of work, all at a very reasonable price.

I especially loved this charm bracelet , with the nests !

She makes wonderful earrings and broaches...

I really need to get one of her red riding hood broaches !

We also got to meet Lovely Pauline Purple, whom you can also find on facebook, she brought a lovely array of very cheaply priced haberdashery packs, they were selling like hot cakes !

She also had alot of vintage sparklies withe her too, necklaces and broaches ! There were ooo's and ah's everywhere !

and just look at the vintage lace !

She also specialises in painting these lovely ducks in any design to suit your own collections or decor !

Mother and daughter team were also there, with their lovely pretty makes :)

They are called Rosebuds and Ribbons and are based in Derby, you can also find them on facebook.

They create the prettiest of colour combinations , just like ice cream and certainly good enough to eat.

Isnt it all very beautiful !

and then we have Sara Longmate, shes also available on facebook, she makes wonderful things out of leather, and her stall smells devine too !

I especially like these leather necklaces that she makes...

She also carries a nice range of handmade cards, handbags and hats !

Below we come to my most favourite folks of all :) two very talented sisters.....

First up is Lauren from Whimsical and Curious , you can find her in my blogg list. I have to confess to buying nearly one of everything from their stalls ! lol ! :)

It was all so tempting anf beautifully displayed ......

and yes, pies that were not edible, but I gave one a bite anyway.. ( just to make sure ! )

Heres her clever sister Julia's stall, she of Linen Circus fame, she has a website and is on fb and you can also find her in my blogg list too !

I also had to buy one or more of everything on her stall ! :)

Look at her Dachsies and those easter chicks with a twist !

She and her sister had a combined stall that won the prize for the best display at the fayre, and you can see why.

All very lovely and very well thought out.

These deer heads of Julias are amazing, and one found its way to my wall !?!  :)

These scented keepsake cushions were so vintage and so beautiful.

She also makes these bags with lil ladies attached .

My daughter Annabelle also created a few knitted box sets for the day too !

I couldnt resist one of these cherrie broaches from Lauren at Whimsical and Curious......

and I wanted to wear these glittery shoes !

I had a few toys there, despite being unwell and struggling with a house move, but it was all worth it just to be there for the day.

I especially like my new nelly on a solid meccano base, I try not to look at him too much, else he will not find a new home :) he will go onto etsy soon.

there was some conversation between dog and chuck.........

and the lavendar kitties just sat and looked ahead.....

it was a lovely weekend. As you know I have moved now, and will be doing these shows closer to home, so do keep intouch to findout when the next one is on and where.

Artisan Market, this weekend , free entry.

Deerie knits........................

 Here we go as promised, here we have Belles knits, yes all the children have to be inflicted at this time of year.......

firstly we have the leg warmers ........

and how about these, over the top kitty mitties, hand warmers..........

and finally, but by no means least is Belles deerie me hat, with rather large little fat antlers.....

let me know your thoughts, and as I say all patterns will be available at some point soon, next up will be Mr Finns badger hat, two needles socks and  badger hand warmers.... so look out !

Knitting....knitting....knitting.......

Every winter I go into knit overload and kit all my four , lovely children, out in knatty knitwear !

Its became a bit of an annual tradition.

(They dont mind, honest !! lol ! )

So I thought we would start by showing off the lovely Dottie-May and the knitwear i designed and made especially for her, she wanted everything fox this year, so I started with a hat ........

Then lovely knee high socks, which as you can see Mr Wolf also approved of, as he believes he can go on longer walks when folks wear my socks !  ;)

and last but by no means least are the foxy hand warmers. I am thinking of making the knitting patterns available for sale on my etsy shop, let me know what you think,

Today I want to promote my lovely friend who makes the most exquisite macaroons to order, here are some tasty pics of the last batch I had at christmas from her.....yum !

Arent they devine, lime and raspberry flavour, with a dusting of edible glitter, you can never have too much of that I say !

Hoorah for Hypatia......

As a home educator to my children, I thought it would be important to remind them of the great philosopher, mathematician and astrologer Hypatia.

I believe her to be one of the most important women who ever lived and way ahead of her time, a free woman, who never married, who taught many men at the great school in Alexandria, who dressed as a fellow male tutor, teaching , philosophy , mathematics and Astrology. Discovering the movement of the planets is what she lived for.

She was a brilliant and sensible woman, who was often called into parliment to discuss situations with the male leaders, she was highly reguarded and admired for her great intelligence of all things.

Her father was also a great philosopher and  mathematician. He brought her up to be just like himself and refused to marry her off, so that she could continue her great work. She was a scientist and a pagan. She did not believe in the new christianity that was popular in rome at that time. Cyril, who later became a saint, was acting like the enforcer at that time of christianity and sadly used very evil tactics to convert people and often stoned to death jews on the sabbath whilst they were worshiping. Something which Jesus himself would of been horrified by, its very sad that Cyril arranged for Hypatia to be brutally murdered.

She was seized from her chambers, stripped naked, stoned by many and after which  they carved chunks off her till she were no more and spread parts of her about the city, as a sign to non believers, and to women who did not know there place in society.

She hated violence and only beleived in peace and common sense, so she quickly had an enemy in Cyril.
I find it outrageous that Cyril was declared a saint in his time, as he certainly was not.

She invented many wonderful things during her life, she was born around 365 ad and died in 415. We can thank her for the invention of the astrolabe, the hydrometer and water distilling machines.

 Cyril and his men tried to wipe any trace of her from the city, by destroying her precious documents, her writings and teachings, but because she taught so many and was admired for her intelligence by all who knew her, she was quoted by everyone, and much of her work lives on today through their writings. We are lucky that she is well documented by the people who knew her and looked up to her. She was a great teacher.

She was an incredible strong woman and stood by what she believed in, she was brave and gifted and we have much  to learn from her today, hundreds of years later her light shines brightly.

Theres a rather good film with the lovely Rachel Weisz in that does quite a good job of telling you all about her, and this book below is a good start too, but i urge you to read up if you have time, you wont be disapointed, she really was and still is a Super Woman
