Wax Dolls at the Museum of Childhood in Gallery 8

I thought it would be nice to talk about the wax dolls at the museum , who are part of the exhibition that I have curated, we have many fine examples throughout the museum, and its vast collection, but these are the three beauties from storage that I chose to display .

First is the immaculate wax christmas fairy , who I dont believe has ever been used, she really is in the most amazing condition.

Even Her clothing is perfect.

Below is my favourite wax pour over doll, she really is a very large doll, who has been loved very much. The cracks on her face are due to temperature changes, during her lifetime and where her adventures have taken her . Whether it be in a nursery, or stashed in an attack. This doll has truly been loved and still is by me !

I especially love the beautiful clothing, stunning little tucks and a pretty fine print cotton, all lovingly hand sewn.

I also love that pink tint to her cheeks, she really is a beauty.

And last but by no means least is this sweet wax pour over doll, who has been loved so much, that the wax is barely there any more. Some people find her a little scary, but look deeper and you will see a doll that has stood the test of time and has been loved from one generation to the next.

I think it would really be something if these little women could tell us their tales.

They truly are very special little ladies and if you are able to ever visit the museum of childhood in Derbyshire,  I can guarantee that you will be utterly delighted with its inhabitants

Have a great bank holiday weekend !!

The Art of The Toymaker in gallery 8

Here is a sneeky taster of the exhibition that I have curated in gallery 8 at the national trusts museum of childhood, Sudbury hall--Derbyshire. Entitled, ' The Art of the Toymaker '

I have even included a pearly queen ....

I also discovered an old mold, that I was priviledged to take a press from, for the museum--not for my own commercial purpose.

I have also include a beautiful art doll...

My beloved Queen Anne, and the beautiful black red riding hood and her tuck comb doll companions...

Wax dolls, penny woodens, and my favourite googly again !!
( If you remember I featured her in last years exhibition too, as she is my favourite :)  )

I am also showing wax pour over doll, porcelain, china and delicate oriental dolls finely carved--and the odd ted too !

The pedlar doll, the rocking red riding hood and the dancing pig are great favourites of mine too !

So come and see it all before its too late, it ends at the end of september, then from october the 1st there will be a new exhibition I have created, but more of that later.

Have a great weekend !! :)

Hoppy Birfday Bear....

Heres Hopi, the Hoppy Birfday bear, hes larger that my usual bears and I thought he would make a lovely birthday present for a special someone.

He is made with golden german mohair...

He has calico birthday bunting, and a special key around his neck.

Hes mounted onto a mahogany plinth to make him easy to display.

He wears his birfday hat casually with ease :)

All he wants now is some birthday cake ! xXx

P.S. He will be featuring on etsy very soon................

Heskith and his love letter.........

Theres a chill in the air, as Heskith steps out to catch the post  very early this morning......

He has a  jittery heart, and carries a very important letter.......

It took him all night to write it !

Hes wondering if he shouldnt send it, and thinks about turning back home and almost does.

But he decides to continue on his  mission.

She might actually say yes, to his proposal !

Heskith will be in the etsy shop very soon.....I wonder if he ever made it to the post box with that letter ??? :)

Here are images of another rather lovely dutch, penny wooden doll at the museum of childhood. We have such a wonderful array of them here, the best I have ever seen. You can see her and others , at the museum of childhood, sudbury hall where I have curated an exhibition, in gallery 8, entitled the art of the toymaker.

I am loving the polka dots !

Joyous be the month of May !!

Its been a beautiful day here, filled with glorious sunshine and such a great way to start May.
Whilst sorting through my images I came across these photos of pigs that I took last May, who lived at Hidcote Manor. I especially like pigs and they like me, mostly because I always bring them apples. I love the way they enjoy the sunshine in such a decadent way and smile defiantly ..
